Because an orthodontist has all the training and education to give you a perfect smile as quickly as possible! To become an orthodontist, you have to go through up to 11 years of school! 4 years in undergraduate, 4 years in dental school, and then another 2-3 years of specialized orthodontic training on top of that. To top it off, at Peikidis Orthodontics we are firm believers in continuing education and make every effort to stay up to date with the latest technologies and techniques in order to achieve the best results for our patients.

Most people are surprised to find out that braces really don’t hurt. The process of applying the braces to the teeth at your initial visit does not hurt. You may start to experience some slight discomfort and soreness after the wire is inserted into the braces, which normally starts about 24 hours after your appointment and should only last about 2-5 days. We recommend eating soft foods, rinsing with salt water, using orthodontic wax, and drinking cool liquids to ease the discomfort. If the pain persists, you can take an over the counter pain reliever as needed.

Every 4-6 weeks you will need to come in for an adjustment appointment that lasts roughly 20 minutes.

This is a great question. It is really important that you avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods such as popcorn, nuts, and sticky candy. These foods can damage your braces and prolong your treatment. Don’t worry about navigating the list of off-limits foods by yourself. Once you have your braces placed, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive list, and don’t hesitate to ask for it again if you misplace yours!

Yes! It’s very important that you stay on top of your preventative oral health care while undergoing orthodontic treatment. We recommend that you see your general dentist for a routine checkup and cleaning every 6 months.
